“A flash of lightning illuminated the object and discovered its shape plainly to me; its gigantic stature, and the deformity of its aspect, more hideous than belongs to humanity, instantly informed me that it was the wretch, the filthy demon to whom I had given life.”
-Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein
I was initially inspired by the grainy black and white contrast of the classic Universal monster films, my collection evolved as I furthered my research by reading Mary Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein. I began to consider my feelings towards the themes of autonomy, solitude, and exile. My self-exploration through these monsters and these notions of solitude led me to reflect on my own actions that have made me fear and crave seclusion.
